Music for Food Concert to Benefit Door County Food Pantry Coalition

A collaboration of Midsummer’s Music, the Griffon String Quartet, and the United Way of Door County

Sister Bay, Wis. – November 5, 2021 – Midsummer’s Music and the Griffon String Quartet are collaborating with the United Way of Door County to present a free concert benefiting the Door County Food Pantry Coalition as part of the nationwide Music for Food program.

Now in its twelfth season, Music for Food is a musician-led initiative to fight hunger, where musicians perform and choose a local pantry support. Audience members donate to benefit the pantry, and the pantry then creates meals for those in need.

The free concert features the Griffon String Quartet playing selections from Danish String Quartet’s Last Leaf album, Astor Piazzolla’s dramatic Four for Tango, and Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quartet No. 12 in E-Flat, Op. 127. Sponsored by Innovative Printing, the event is on November 20, beginning at 5:30pm at the Donald & Carol Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor. Attendees can bring a nonperishable food item or make a monetary donation to the Door County Food Pantry Coalition at the door. Visit midsummersmusic.com to reserve free tickets.

Music for Food’s concerts have raised funds to create more than 1.5 million meals. Even before the Covid-19 pandemic, food-insecurity affected countless Americans, especially those with children and those who self-identified as Black, Latinx, or Native American. More than 35 million people in the United States faced food-insecurity in 2019, and Feeding America projects that 42 million people—including 13 million children—may be food insecure in 2021. More information about Music for Food, including the locations and dates of other events, is available at musicforfood.net.

Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
