Midsummer’s Music will present live, in-person concerts this summer for those who wish to attend. Additional virtual performances will also be offered. With Ludwig van Beethoven reaching the age of 250 this past December 15th, we will be celebrating the great master’s life with some of his most interesting and thrilling works throughout the season. Sharing the stage with Beethoven will be works by some of his friends and those influenced by him plus our usual range of exciting discoveries of neglected composers, women, and minorities.

Included in our seasonal repertoire will be works resulting from our new Emerging Composer’s Initiative. This program expands our Composer-in-Residence program to include two additional Fellows. Will Healy, our new Composer-in-Residence, will present the world premiere of a commissioned work, and our two Fellows, Paul Frucht and Quinn Mason, will be represented by already existing works. Healy and Frucht are both from New York while Mason is from Dallas. They won their positions in a highly competitive nationwide competition, which attracted over 140 applicants.

Tickets will go on sale on or before May 5. Venues will include the Door County Auditorium, the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor, Woodwalk Gallery, and Bjorklunden, all venues that allow for appropriate and comfortable spacing. Other venues may be added if changes in COVID restrictions in the coming months allow.

New this season will be a series of outdoor performances, which will include several on the lovely grounds at Berkenfeld in Baileys Harbor. This spacious and inviting environment will allow for picnicking and exploration of the Berkenfeld Estate before and after the concert.

Veteran favorite musicians who will be returning include David Perry, Violin and Sally Chisholm, Viola (members of the Pro Arte Quartet, Madison), Jeannie Yu, Piano (Milwaukee Symphony member), Ann Palen, Violin (Lyric Opera of Chicago), Heather Yarmel, Flute (Milwaukee Symphony), and Dan Won, Clarinet. Additional musicians and full programming will be announced in the coming weeks.
