Midsummer’s presents Anton Reicha and Ludwig van Beethoven in an outdoor Labor Day weekend concert
Midsummer’s Music, whose concerts have been hailed as “exciting, pulse-pounding, and riveting,” will present a live, socially distanced, outdoor chamber music concert on the beautiful grounds of Woodwalk Gallery located at 6746 County Rd. G in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin on Saturday, September 5, 5:00 pm (CT). The rain date is Sunday, September 6, 5:00 pm (CT). Tickets, which must be purchased in advance at midsummersmusic.com or by calling 920-854-7088, are $30 Adult, $10 Student. No walk-ups will be admitted.
Nationally recognized radio personality Norman Gilliland of Wisconsin Public Radio will serve as the concert host. The Friends of Old program features Anton Reicha’s Clarinet Quintet in F Major and Ludwig van Beethoven’s String Quintet in C Major. Midsummer’s Music featured musicians include Daniel Won, clarinet, David Perry and Ann Palen, violins, Sally Chisholm and Allyson Fleck, violas, and Greg Sauer, cello. Reicha of Prague, and Beethoven of Bonn, were both born in 1770. In 1785, Reicha moved to Bonn where he became friends with Beethoven and played in the Elector’s orchestra with Beethoven. They reunited in Vienna in 1801 and remained friends from then on. The two quintets in the Friends of Old program suggest their close and lifelong musical relationship.
The safety of the audience and musicians is of utmost importance to Midsummer’s Music. Midsummer’s Music follows all COVID-19 guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, the State of Wisconsin, and Door County, including wearing masks except while eating or drinking; social distancing; and limiting the crowd size to 50. Tables and chairs will be provided, but you may supply your own chairs if you prefer. Bring picnics, refreshments, and masks to your own 8’x8′ block for the sunset concert. All blocks are for up to two (2) patrons. Attendees understand that there is a risk to being in crowds, and they waive liability to Midsummer’s Music Ltd. Anyone who has been around someone who is ill from contracting COVID-19, is ill themselves, or suspects they might be ill should not attend.
Midsummer’s Music draws on the extraordinary talent of musicians from the Chicago Symphony, Chicago’s Lyric Opera, Milwaukee Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Indianapolis Symphony, Aspen Music Festival, China National Symphony and the Ravinia Festival, among others. Midsummer’s Music was co- founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
