Roy Meyer, Violin
Greetings! Upon finishing the Griffon’s inaugural “voyage” season at the end of May, I was fortunate to have a couple weeks off. I went on a 2-week hiking trip to the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming and Glacier National Park in Montana, stopping at many fun attractions and breweries along the way. Such carefree days could not possibly last and the rest of the summer got busy in a hurry.
I spent the first week of July participating in “Opera Italiana,” a new summer festival in Central Park, NYC, in collaboration with musicians of the Metropolitan Opera. After much Verdi and great food, I taught and performed at the Illinois Chamber festival at Illinois Wesleyan University where I was later joined with my colleagues from the Griffon. From there the Griffon packed in a van and drove to Manhattan, Kansas, for a week of teaching and performing at KSU. When we finished, I drove home for a few days with family in Central Wisconsin.
In Sherry, I am artistic director of a festival I started with my friends four years ago called “Concerts in the Shed.” We performed two successful chamber concerts including Haydn’s C Major Cello Concerto with Ryan Louie.
With August passing fast, I spent the final two weeks in Houston, Minnesota, where I am a founding member of the “Apollo Music Festival.” There I collaborated with musicians from across the country including members of the Minnesota orchestra and Oregon Symphony and Robert Hanford of Lyric Opera in Chicago. And with that, summer was over. I am looking forward to another action-packed season with the Griffon. Onward and upward!
