Midsummer’s Music Welcomes New Board Members

Midsummer’s Music draws on the wisdom and guidance from individuals who comprise the board of directors. Board members typically exhibit a special, continued dedication to Midsummer’s Music through their support for the organization, musicians, and staff. Midsummer’s welcomes Lee Jacobi and Paul Lings, who recently began three-year terms.

Lee Jacobi served as a music educator for 40 years in secondary schools in three different school districts in Wisconsin. He also served as the Director of Music at the First Congregational Church of Wauwatosa for 41 years before retiring full-time. Mr. Jacobi holds degrees from Milton College and Chicago Musical College of Roosevelt University. He and his wife, Barbara, are year-round residents of Sister Bay.

Paul Lings graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1969 with a B.S. in Industrial Personnel Supervision, specializing in metals. He moved to Athens, GA, received an M Ed in Trade and Industrial Education and taught welding in a vocational high school for four years, and three years in a vocational technical college. Later, he and his wife, Anne, opened their goldsmithing shop, Carats & Karats, in 1980. They ran the shop in Ephraim for 38 years during the summer and fall seasons and returned to Athens for the winter. In the early 1990’s, they became very interested in ancient jewelry styles, so they researched it in a Masters of Fine Arts program at the University of Georgia, where Paul received an MFA in Jewelry and Metalworking in 1997, specializing in ancient jewelry and metalworking techniques and high-karat gold.

Midsummer’s Music thanks Peggy Lott and Ann Morgan, whose board terms recently expired, for their years of service. Most recently, Peggy served as the board’s vice president.

Midsummer’s Music celebrates 33 years of bringing chamber music to Door County in 2023. The summer season of concerts begins June 14 and runs through September 4. Visit www.midsummersmusic.com as schedule details are updated.

Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
