Concerts are at Woodwalk Gallery and Trueblood PAC, September 15-17.
Memphis musician Eric Lewis returns to Woodwalk Gallery in Egg Harbor for two nights – and one night at the Trueblood Performing Arts Center on Washington Island – in an encore performance with the Griffon String Quartet. Lewis is a National Academy of Arts and Sciences award-winning multi-instrumentalist who performs and records with some of the top Memphis artists including Bailey Bigger, Tommy Burroughs, Earl the Pearl, and the legendary Hi Rhythm. His work has been featured in Flatpicking Guitar Magazine, and he is well known in Door County for his association with Buckets of Rain—The Songs of Bob Dylan, Northern Sky Theater, and local songwriter Katie Dahl. In 2017, Eric released two CDs: his solo effort “Before the Last Time,” and “Solid Ground: The Songs of Fred Alley” with Katie Dahl and Rich Higdon.
Joining Lewis will be special guests the Griffon String Quartet. One of the most vibrant and engaging quartets of their generation, the Griffon String Quartet – Midsummer’s Music’s resident ensemble – was formed in 2018 to enrich the lives of children and adults throughout northeast Wisconsin through concerts, workshops, and music education outreach. These extraordinary musicians have performed with orchestras and ensembles around the country in the finest halls from the Aspen Music Festival, Caroga Lake Music Festival, the Chicago Opera Theater, Seattle Symphony Orchestra, and Carnegie’s Weill Hall. Each member of the Griffon String Quartet has advanced degrees and significant professional experience, both as educators and performers, and the ensemble has been recognized for “their youthful vigor, which is absolutely infectious!” Lewis says, “This is a dream come true to perform with such a high caliber string quartet! I’m still pinching myself.” Lewis will perform solo and several selections from his upcoming CD project with the quartet.
Also joining the concerts will be vocalist Gail Bliss from Myrtle Beach, SC, whom Eric frequently performs with in Just A Closer Walk with Patsy Cline.
