Two strong female professionals join the Midsummer’s Music board of directors.
Midsummer’s Music draws on the wisdom and guidance from individuals who comprise the board of directors. Board members typically exhibit a special, continued dedication to Midsummer’s Music through their support for the organization, musicians, and staff. The organization welcomes Alice Chrismer and Megan Heintzkill, who recently began three-year terms.
Alice graduated from Wheaton College in 1970. After graduation, she and her husband, Bob, lived and worked two years in rural Bolivia, S.A. In a remote jungle village with scarce resources and no literacy, they taught primary school during the day and adult literacy at night. Upon returning to the states, Alice continued teaching in a bi-lingual class in Chicago’s inner-city. After beginning her family, Alice, in partnership, established Chrismer Mardock Communication Design, providing branding and messaging for nonprofit organizations in the Chicago area—from the arts to social justice and education. Alice is a charter member of the Fund for Women and Girls at Evanston Community Foundation. Her philanthropic interests continue to be supporting young families through child development and education, social justice work with a focus on women, and the arts. She spends much of her time studying and playing Baroque violin and she enjoys sharing Door County’s natural beauty with friends and family, including six grandchildren.
Megan earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Political Science from Ripon College, followed by a Professional Designation in Personal Financial Planning from the University of California – Los Angeles extension, and a Master of Business Administration from California Lutheran University. She is currently the Director of Financial Planning for Fortifi Bank/Fortifi Investments in Berlin, WI, where she is responsible for all aspects of the Investment Services Department and for directing the financial planning process for all bank clients. In her free time, Megan sings with the Dudley Birder Chorale, where she has also been a board member since 2012, and she plays violin with the Fox Valley New Horizons Orchestra.
Midsummer’s Music celebrates 31 years of bringing chamber music to Door County in 2021. The summer season of concerts will include live, socially spaced events as well as virtual events. Visit www.midsummersmusic.com for schedules.
Midsummer’s Music was co-founded in 1990 by Jim and Jean Berkenstock, long-time Door County summer residents and principal orchestral players with the Lyric Opera of Chicago. What began as two concerts among friends has become one of the Midwest’s most anticipated chamber music series, bringing thousands of chamber music enthusiasts from around the globe to the magical Door County Peninsula.
