Sister Bay, Wis. – July 26, 2018 – Midsummer’s Music concludes the first part of its 2018 summer season with the final concerts of the Renewable Energy program while preparing for the series of concerts that lead up to the finale on Labor Day.
The Renewable Energy program features the music of Mozart, Joachim Nicolas Eggert, and Joachim Raff. Each composer demonstrates his unmistakable ability to infuse his works with spirit, vitality, and raw energy. Works include Mozart’s String Quintet No. 5, Eggert’s Sextet for Clarinet, Horn and strings, and Raff’s String Sextet.
Performances are August 2 at 6:00 at the Old Gibraltar Town Hall in Fish Creek with an optional dinner at Alexander’s afterward; and a Write On, Door County collaboration at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor on August 4 at 7:00. People may attend the August 2 concert at regular ticket prices or combine the concert with the dinner for $75 for adults and $56 for students. Advanced reservations are required for the concert and dinner package. Tickets for the August 4 concert are $29 for adults, $10 for students, and free for children 12 and younger.
The series of concerts leading up to Labor Day begins Sunday, August 26, with a program entitled A Czech Life, which highlights music by Bedřich Smetana, Antonín Dvořák, and Midsummer’s own Composer-in-Residence, Jacob Beranek. The final program of the season is Creative Aquifers, created to promote the Celebrate Water initiative of the Door County Community Foundation. Pieces by Franz Schubert, Samuel Barber, and Paul Schoenfield will be played, and mezzo-soprano Susan Platts will be Midsummer’s special guest for the four concerts, including the Labor Day benefit event at Björklunden.
